Endless beaches in Costa da Caparica
Costa da Caparica is not well known among tourists. You find mostly Portuguese here and therefore it is the perfect spot on our trip around Europe with baby nomad (4 months old). Moreover, it has an endless beach, several surfing and kitesurfing areas. Also, there are absolutely delicious and cozy beach bars & restaurants. It is just 30 driving minutes away from Lisbon (& airport). So this is where most of our family and friends visited us.
The only “routine” baby nomad and I had in Costa, were the walks along the beach early in the morning. During the day it gets quite hot and windy in Costa, so it is not easy to stay with baby at the beach. Because of the wind you want to stay away from the sand and because of the sun you need shade. The beach shelter gets too hot and the sun umbrella from home gets blown away. We either ended up in one of those beach bars or on beach chairs under a fix umbrella.
It was nice to have everyone there at once. While my parents were babysitting I could go out with my friend to Barrio Alto, a vibrant bar area in Lisbon. It is one of my favorite places. The tiny streets are full with even tinier bars, so that the people just hang out in the streets. It is easy to get in contact with everyone and no one is too drunk or aggressive – just a great atmosphere!
I went surfing with the siblings of nomad. And finally I also went kitesurfing on this trip. Although I know the basics, I am still a kite student. Therefore, I took lessons with the first kitesurf pioneer in Portugal, Duarte. A great & placid teacher who taught me to go upwind for fair prices.
As we stayed for 2 weeks, we had 2 different apartment. The first apartment was a really nice surprise. The pictures on AirBnb were not great but in fact the apartment was in a cute neighborhood, a few steps away from the beach, clean and well furnished. The neighborhood of the second apartment was not so nice, but it had 2 big balconies.

Although we stayed for 2 weeks in Costa it was not a tiny bit boring 🙂
