Frankfurt’s alternative baby & kids tours
On our world trip we came across Frankfurt. As we are quite familiar with this city you will find here a city guide for Frankfurt with kids or a baby. Most of you imagine Frankfurt as a grey banking city, but it is not the case! Frankfurt with kids is actually quite green. The Main river is well integrated into the city and the city has various cozy and alternative locations. It is also ideal if you travel with baby. I would advise to spend 4 days if it’s your first visit.
We had a stylish apartment perfectly located in Frankfurt-Ostend, which was incredibly clean.
Cost per night incl. everything: 115 € (this is quite cheap for Frankfurt).
While travelling with baby, the areas close to the Main river (Ostend, City Center, Sachsenhausen-Nord, Brückenviertel), are great for a stay. The Bahnhofsviertel is a bit dodgy but has some hipster bars.
Frankfurt with kids or baby – city walks:
- Green line: A green circle surrounds Frankfurt’s city center: Obermainanlage, Eschenheimer Anlage, Bockenheimer Anlage, Taunusanlage. This is also a great city walk with baby or kids. It is always green, has plenty playgrounds and you will see most of the tourist attractions: the Bethmannpark with the Chinese garden, Eschenheimer Tor, Alte Oper, Banking area. Take a rest at the Cafe Maingold, which looks like an old apartment inside, or the Hausbar. It used to be an old public restroom and now it is a cute a cafe – yummy!
- Pink line: Walking along the Main river on both sides is an even more relaxed city walk. This gives you the unique skyline view from the south side. Take a break at the Maincafe! It is great during the day and in the evening. Close to the Untermainbrücke there is the world’s first and very special Döner Boot. And it is tasty, too. Take the next stop at the footbridge Eiserner Steg. There are also elevators if you walk with a stroller. This bridge looks romantic and has interesting history. It was Frankfurt’s second bridge financed by a club founded and financed by citizens of Frankfurt. The next sight will be the new building of the European Central Bank. On the other side of the river you might want to stop at the Oosten, a hip industrial style restaurant. After the Eiserner Steg you will pass a Park called Nizza. Guess what – the plants growing there look like the ones at the French Riviera. The restaurant next to it, MainNizza, is beautiful and/but fancy.
- Blue line: Finally, the Berger Street provides you an insight of the Frankfurt lifestyle. It starts at the Bethmannpark and continues with lots of small cafes, shops and restaurants. Bethmann’s Cafe is a nice one for a break.
More kids & baby friendly places in Frankfurt:
- Hafen 2 is a lovely and alternative location a bit outside the city. It is directly at the Main river, has a beautiful in- and outdoor with playgrounds, geese, an old circus wagon and open-air cinema.
- The Palmengarten (Frankfurt’s botanic garden) is one of the classy but very nice locations. They have some playgrounds for kids, too. Moreover, the Grüneburgpark is directly next to it.
- And because a botanic garden is just a Zoo without animals, you might want to visit the Zoo.
